Seresto is a dog collar with a polymer matrix system
Seresto, with innovative polymer matrix, slowly releases the two active ingredients (imidacloprid and flumethrin) into the lipid layer of the dog’s skin and coat, creating an invisible protective layer that kills fleas and kills and repels ticks before they can bite, thus helping to reduce the risk of transmission of some vector-borne diseases.
How does Seresto work?
Seresto, Collar with patented Polymer Matrix technology, releases its active ingredients in low and continuous doses onto the skin and coat for protection from parasites and the diseases they can transmit. Seresto is odorless and resistant to occasional contact with water. Seresto dog parasite collar is a practical and long-lasting solution that helps protect your best friend.
How to apply Seresto for dogs
- Pull the Seresto dog collar out of the wrapper inside the box, unroll the collar, and be sure to remove the plastic connectors inside the collar as well. Place the collar around the dog’s neck and insert the end into the loops.
- Adjust the collar around the neck, without tightening it too much, leaving a space of about two fingers between the collar and the dog’s neck.
- Once the optimal size is reached, cut off the excess portion if it exceeds 2 cm after the last loop.
What is Seresto?
It is an antiparasitic collar for dogs and cats that provides a simple and practical remedy to the problem of fleas (and flea larvae in the treated animal’s surroundings) and ticks (larvae, nymphs and adult ticks) by offering up to 8 months of protection with a single application. Seresto also provides repellent activity against ticks, thus preventing the repulsive parasites from taking a blood meal.
What are the features of Seresto dog collar?
With innovative technology (Polymer Matrix), Seresto releases low and continuous doses of the two active ingredients over a long period of time. The active ingredients reach your dog’s skin and coat and, from there, spread throughout the entire body, fully protecting it from flea ticks and reducing the risk of transmission of vector-borne dog diseases such as leishmaniasis for up to eight months.
What are the active ingredients of Seresto?
Seresto contains two active ingredients: imidacloprid, which eliminates adult fleas, larvae and lice, and flumethrin, which kills ticks and, due to its repellent(antifeeding) effect, indirectly reduces the risk of transmission of canine Ehrlichiosis and canine Babesiosis for 7 months. Thanks to flumethrin, Seresto protects against the risk of transmission of leishmaniasis by phlebotomids for up to 8 months with a single application.
How long does it take for Seresto to take effect?
Seresto works as a flea collar for dogs by eliminating fleas; activity begins within 48 hours after application of the collar. Ticks are generally killed and fall off the host within 24-48 hours after infestation, without having made a blood meal.
Why do I keep seeing a tick on my dog even though he is wearing the Seresto collar?
Ticks can get on your dog’s coat even if he is wearing the Seresto collar. The active ingredient in the collar works by contact, so it is necessary for the tick to physically touch the coat to be exposed to the active ingredient. As soon as this happens, the tick falls off and dies. If conditions are unfavorable, it cannot be ruled out that individual ticks will attach after treatment.
My dog bites the collar. Should I be worried?
The active ingredients are found in the matrix of the collar. In the unlikely event that your dog eats the collar, he may only present with mild gastrointestinal discomfort. In this circumstance, we still recommend that you see your veterinarian immediately. Remember: if the dog can bite the collar with ease, it means, in good probability, that the collar is loose. Adjust it to leave a space of about two fingers between the collar and the animal’s neck.
